Hi this is Jerica from InSinkErator Customer Service. I am sorry for the inconvenience that your disposer may have caused you. There are several possibilities that we have to consider why a disposer would vibrate excessively. One possibility could be the impellers of your disposer.
Your disposer uses two swiveling impellers to grind food during operation. If one or both of the impellers are stuck (not moving freely), this can cause vibration. To check this, first make sure power is OFF to the disposer. Then remove the Quiet Collar Sink Baffle and look down into the disposer using a flashlight. You should see two metal objects (the impellers) held to the “floor: of the disposer with a rivet or “pin”. They are across from each other, half way between the walls of the disposer and the center of the rotating disk. Do not put your hands into the disposer. Use a wooden spoon handle or tool to push on each of these impellers. They should move around very easily and independently from the plate. After checking, remove the tool.
If one or both of the swivel impellers does not move easily, this may be causing the concern. You may be able to free the swivel lug(s) or impeller(s) using some simple steps. We recommend that you may want to try grinding some hard food items like bones or fruit pits (avocado or peach type). The disposer is designed to grind bones. Raw beef round steak bones work best, cooked beef or pork chop bones may also be used. While bones are preferable, fruit pits may be substituted. As these types of hard items knock up against the stuck impellers, it should cause them to free up and thus return the disposer to its normal grinding capabilities and alleviate the vibration. You can follow the easy steps listed below.
1. Turn on the faucet.
2. Run a strong flow of cold water.
3. Turn on the disposer.
4. Insert a bone or two (depending upon the size), or a fruit pit or two, into the disposer and position the stopper to minimize possible ejection of material while grinding by placing the stopper in the opening at an angle so that water can flow but the hole opening is mostly covered. Don't be afraid of the noise. Your disposer is a very durable appliance specifically designed to grind these types of items. The material will take a minute or two to grind. Leave the disposer and the water on until grinding is complete.
5. Run the water for 15 seconds after grinding is complete.
6. Turn the disposer off.
Make sure power is off to the disposer and then check the impellers again using the handle of a spoon or other appropriate tool (for a disposer that is magnetically actuated, use a non-magnetic tool). Again, do not put your hands into the chamber. If the impellers are still not moving freely, you should repeat the process once or twice more.
