The Evolution Essential food waste disposer is the ideal choice for a wide range of kitchens.

Have a "Evolution Essential" Closing up house for winter. Pouring in "R.V.Plumbing Antifreeze" No Salt, Non Toxic. Can this be poured down the unit.

When shutting off the water?
Hi Niven,

This is Jim with InSinkErator. It is not necessary to use Antifreeze in prepping the unit for non-use. But, if you choose to, to prepare your plumbing for the winter, the Anti-freese will not damage the unit. I hope I have been able to Answer your question today. The InSinkErator stopper is designed to stop water and food particles from traveling down the drain. For use on all InSinkErator manufactured disposers, the stopper is easy to insert and remove from your sink drain. The stopper is available in a wide range of designer colors to complement many kitchen decors.

does the rubber flapper in the bottom of the sink come out or do you have to clean it in place?

Hi Duane,

This is Jim with InSinkErator. To answer your question, It depends on the Model of InSinkErator disposer you have. If you have any one of our Evolution model disposers the rubber flapper (the baffle) is removable and can be cleaned by hand or in a dishwasher (it sits in a groove in the drain opening). If you have one of the units in our Badger line, the baffle is part of the mounting gasket and can not be removed and must be cleaned in place. I hope I was able to answer your question today. If you have any other questions concerning our products, please feel free to contact our AnswerLine at 800-558-5700. Thank you.

This InSinkErator Involve Series system, which includes the Wave Instant Hot Water Dispenser and re-engineered Stainless Steel Tank, provides 200F near-boiling water and cool drinking water. Transitionally designed, the Involve Wave complements both soft contemporary and traditional design styles. Enjoy hot or cool water right when you need it - now.

How cold does the water get? Does it actively cool water?

Hi Katie,

This is Jim with InSinkErator. When you see Cold or Cool in the description for some of our dispensers, this just means you can connect your dispenser to the cool/cold side of your incomming water line. Our units only heat the water, the cool side of our faucets are only dispensing water at whatever the temperature your cold water normally comes out at. I hope I have been able to answer your question today. If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact our AnswerLine at 800-558-5700. Thank you.

The Evolution Compact food waste disposer is perfect for small households and houses with restricted cabinet space.

can this product be used with a house that's on well water?

Hi Cher,

This is Jim with InSinkErator. The quality of water may affect the longevity of the unit, but it should not affect the functionality of the unit. The harsher the water condition, the more effect it may have on the metal parts that are exposed to the water, over time. If you use the correct type of filtration or if the water is softened prior to being dispensed, this will help in prolonging the life of the disposer. I hope I have been able to answer your question today, If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to contact our AnswerLine at 800-558-5700.

Do your units emit "ANY" RFI as in brush arcing?

Modern dishwashers have much more sensitive circuitry W/R to RFI. As improbable as it sounds, repeated failures here might be traceable to older disposals with universal motors and improper house wiring. A few dishwashers have line filters installed, but most do not. If your units have negligible RFI to other kitchen appliances, spell it out in your advertising! I'm 81 yr old BSEE and getting tired of fixing poorly designed appliances. Electric codes are becoming sensitive to arcing as a cause of many residential fires. See old history on electric blankets destroying homes. As a preventative measure, if you make RFI free devices, I will replace mine. As an old guided missile designer, am very sensitive to electrical noise problems that might burn my house down as many dishwashers have.
Hi Bandtail1

This is Jim with InSinkErator. To answer your question; All of our disposers use induction motor technology which does not have brushes and therefore has no RFI due to brushes. I cannot say it is RFI free but it is negligible, especially when compared to the motor technology used in competitive products (Permanent Magnet Motors) which do contain brushes. I hope I was able to address your concerns today. Thank you for your question.

A convenient alternative to a wall switch, the stylish SinkTop Switch from InSinkErator is air-activated and easily mounts to the sink or counter top. It is also ideal for island installations. The SinkTop Switch is for use with all disposers (must have AC power below sink.)

The switch quit working.

The switch was working fine, now nothing. I checked the outlet, surge protector.
Hi Linda,

This is Jim with InSinkErator. I do apologize for the issue you are having with the disposer or switch.

I have included some troubleshooting steps for your Sink Top Switch. If you look under the sink, you will see a clear plastic tube wherein one end is connected to the push button switch and the other end is connected to the switch box which is plugged into your outlet.

You can check to see if the bellows portion may need replacement using the following steps:

1. Disconnect the clear plastic tube from the spigot at the bottom of the bellows.
2. Unplug the switch box. Double-check to be sure that the other end of the tube is securely attached to the spigot on the switch box.
3. Plug the switch box back in.
4. Force some air into the disconnected tube end. You may, if you wish, blow through the tubing, or find an alternate method of pushing air through.
5. If the disposer turns on, the bellows portion of the switch may need to be replaced.
6. Reconnect the tube to the bottom of the air switch.
If the disposer does not turn on, you have checked to be sure there is power to the switch box, the reset is engaged, and forcing air through the tube does not activate the unit, the issue may be internal to the switch box or to the disposer itself and you may require service at this time.

If this does not corret the issue, please contact our AswerLine at 800-558-5700 or send an email with your contact information to insinkeratorfeedback@emerson.com for further assistance.

I have an Insinkerator Badger model 5-71. It's about 15 years old. I'm in need of a replacement sound baffle. What specific baffle do I need?
