Hi LEFB,
This is Belle from InSinkErator Customer Service.
Please follow these steps to clean your disposer:
1.Make sure power to the disposer is OFF.
2.Remove and clean the quiet collar with a soapy scouring pad or, if you have a dishwasher and would prefer, you can put it in the dishwasher.
3.Replace the quiet collar.
4.Place the stopper in sink opening and fill sink halfway with warm water.
5.Mix 1/4 cup of baking soda with the water.
6.Turn the disposer on and then remove the stopper from sink hole opening. This will flood the grind chamber to wash away loose particles.
This procedure may cause the disposer to vibrate a bit and this would be considered normal. While it is acceptable to perform this procedure occasionally, it should not be done on an every day basis.
Other options to clean the disopsper include grinding bones. The disposer is designed to grind bones. Bones create a scouring action that scrape off leftover particles that may cause odor. We recommend that bones be ground periodically. Grinding citrus peels occasionally will also help to freshen up the disposer.
Lastly, disposers may also be cleaned with garbage disposal cleaners. We recommend Disposer Care®. This product is not sold by InSinkErator, but is generally available in major home centers, hardware, and grocery stores.
