Prosmade in usa, long life, compact in size, easy to install, priced right
Conscould come with a small package of plummer putty
After a little over 18yrs, our garbage disposal gave out or should I say, rusted out. I noted the old unit was a Badger 1, so I decided to install the same unit for ease of installation. The unit takes up less space under the sink and does a great job of common food scraps. Such scraps as orange, potato, and banana peels go into compost. The Badger 1 appears powerful enough to handle these items. Was surprised at the long life of the original unit.
Yes, I recommend this product.

Badger 1 1-83 replacement

I have a 1-83 which started leaking. What other models can i replace it with without changing connections.
I replaced our Badger 1 with the same model. Installation was easy. If a different model, be ready to do some repiping of the drain line under the sink.

can the sink baffle be removed for cleaning without removing the entire unit?

badger 1
The black sink baffle is part of the gasket that seals the disposal. Clean the baffle in place.

Purchased a badger 1 from lowes. is there a plug in the dishwasher connect

Usually, the dishwasher is plugged into a wall outlet located under the kitchen sink. Check under the kitchen sink for this outlet. One side of the outlet will be hot 100% of the time where the other side will be operated by a switch above the sink counter. If you do not see this, then you will need additional wiring and a switch for the disposal.

Do I need to replace the sink flange & plumber's putty if my old Badger 5 (installed 4 years ago) is the same as the new replacement unit?

To get the disposal free, you need to detach it from the flange. At this time, you might as well replace the sink flange and use plumbers putty. It does not take that much more time and it worth it.

sink won't drain

the disposer is working fine but the sink won't drain or drains extremely slow. must be a problem with the pipe coming out of disposer. Is there anything that I can do to push "clog" thru?
I started to have this problem. Our Badger 1 is straight piped to a tee with the other sink and then to a P trap and to the wall. Our unit was 18 yrs old. Noted that the grinding plate was rusted out. On taking apart the Tee, I found rust pieces blocking the disposal part of the Tee. Unplug the disposal, use a good flashlight and look inside the unit, from the top to make sure no parts have rusted due to age. If not, you will have to unhook the P trap or Tee and take a look for food sludge build up or congealed grease.

Replace Badger 1 (1-83) with Evolution Septic Series

Hi, I have a model 1-83 (I assume this is what is known as a badger 1). I would like to replace it with your evolution series but I don't want to hassle with any plumbing issues. Is the discharge port in the same location or would this require a plumbing modification?

Thank you!

I replaced our Badger 1 with the same model, even after 18yrs of operation. The larger HP models are up to 5 inches taller. Check dimensions on your Badger 1. A simple measurement would suffice. My wife wanted a larger model but I did not want to repipe the drain lines nor did I want to take up more space under the sink. Also I did not want to increase the garbage load on my sewer lines. You will find dimensions on both models on the internet if you do not want to measure.

What foods can be placed in the disposal that would not cause the disposal to cut off?

I, personally, do not put fibrous vegetable materials, such as banana peels, celery, nor do I put in orange or lemon peels. Also I have a compost that I put larger vegetable scraps, but not meat, fish, or poultry scraps. We have a Badger 1.

I have a badger1, and it's leaking from the bottom, near red reset button. Is it repairable

Make sure it is truly leaking from the bottom and not the plastic takeoff to the drain. If it is not a plumbing connection and your unit is out of warranty, you will save time and money to purchase another like model. Installation is not difficult, especially if you are changing like for like.
