Switch doesn't activate disposal

I followed instruction to install, but the switch doesn't activate the disposal. I hear the air sound coming, so I do not believe the switch is defective. The disposal is in a working condition, but we have been using a magnetic top activator. This switch only works for the model with the wall switch? Please let me know.
